Specialized Training on youth advocacy for youth organizations in Nigeria and West Africa.

The Nigerian Alcohol Prevention Youth Network (NAPYN) in Partnership with the Nigeria Medical Student Association
and the support of the Alliance House Foundation London (AHF)/Institute of Alcohol Studies (IAS) is organizing a specialized workshop on youth advocacy on alcohol its related issues.

· Course Date: 21-23th June 2011

The Training Course:

The training course is made to empower the members of NAPYN and its stakeholders with the necessary skills and
capacity in order to actively promote their views on alcohol and it’s health implication, by giving them the capacity to
influence government institutions as well developing effective research and raising awareness through a public health
approach independent of commercial interest. The training course is inviting application from youth advocates, students
in the both the legal and medical discipline in all the tertiary institution across the six geo-political zones.
Objective of the training course:
· To train (develop skill and competences) participants on the field important for concrete action on alcohol
and youth.
· To foster cooperation and networking amongst the organizations present.
· To allow participants to have a general overview on alcohol policy, empowering them to take action when
going back to their organization.
· To collect and learn from each other’s experiences.
· To teach on the technique and tools on developing an effective advocacy.
· To establish and elect a national working team that would develop a national project that would develop alcohol policy issues in Nigeria.

Target Group:

Youth Representatives both International and National NGO within west Africa, students in tertiary institution and active
members in both Medical and Legal disciplines, consideration would be given to secondary students.
Critical/Eligibility:
· Must be a Nigerian or a member of the west African region
· Age between 18- 25years
· Should be in a higher institution and preference would be given to secondary student are in senior
secondary school
· Is currently working with a youth based NGO’s within Nigeria and west Africa.
· A leader with proven track record of leadership

Language of Instruction:
· English Language

Abuja, Nigeria

Registration:

for international participant form west Africa countries N5,000
Nigerian Nationals(Students/corpers/rep.youth org: N3,000


Course Material:
The course will be a 2day workshop and include the following lunch, refreshments, toolkits/reference material and a
course certificate, copies of institute of alcohol studies publication will also be given to all participants.

Cost:
· A partial scholarship will be awarded to successful applicant which include accommodation and transportation.


Total number of expected participant:
· 20 – 25 participants
